Altar Guild

The Trinity Cathedral Altar Guild serves an ancient and sacred function by preparing the altar for Holy Communion at each service, to the worship and glory of God.  After each service, the altar and credence tables are cleared, vessels and dishes are cleaned, and preparations are made to prepare the church for the next service.  Special Altar Guild services may be requested for ordination and diocesan events, weddings, funerals, and other special services throughout the church year.

Training is provided, and new members can serve an apprenticeship with an existing member until they feel comfortable working without direction.  (Duties do not include flower arranging: we have an excellent flower guild that prepares our beautiful flowers for us.)

This can be a time of great fellowship and fun that adds a wonderful dimension to our desire to be of service to the Cathedral.

Finally, service on the Altar Guild is not just a job but a prayer in itself.  It is not only an active ministry for our Cathedral, but can also be a wonderful contemplative break — dedicated time for your spirit to rest in the presence of God.  When undertaken in this spirit, the duties of caring for the altar become precious and something every member can look forward to.

All interested people are welcome to join and become further acquainted with the accoutrements of the sanctuary.  If you would like to join us or would like more information on the Altar Guild, please contact the Cathedral office.
