New Banners

On Pentecost Sunday, we dedicated a set of 14 processional banners, a gift from Charliss Russ. There is a brochure available on the back tables in the church that provides information on the meaning of the holy day/season the banner represents, as well as information on where in the church the inspiration for the banner designs can be found.

We are using our new banner for the Season after Pentecost.

The Season after Pentecost
The Season after Pentecost is spent studying the teachings and miracles of Jesus. The Season lasts until the First Sunday of Advent.

Green is the liturgical color of living things and God's creation and refers to growth of the spirit of God within us.

The banner design: The Jerusalem Cross, from Bishop Keller’s cope, is composed of a central cross made of four tau crosses representing the Old Testament law. [A tau cross is named after the Greek letter it resembles, and the shape of the letter tau or T was interpreted as representing a crucifix from antiquity.] The four smaller Greek crosses represent the fulfillment of the law in the gospel of Christ. Other interpretations represent the missionary work of the church - spreading the gospel to the four corners of the earth - while others acknowledged the five crosses to represent the five wounds of Christ on the cross (hands, feet and side).

Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them; that, by patience and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
