An Invitation from the Kellers

Dear People of Trinity Cathedral,
Julie and I are delighted to announce that on Saturday, June 4, at 5:00 o’clock, our son Christoph will marry Laura Porter, of Hamburg, Arkansas in the Cathedral.
In planning the wedding, we have had two customs in mind. We inherit, first, a custom that a bride and her family are expected to assume the larger share of financial responsibility for a wedding and reception. In my clergy family there is, second, a custom that when the child of a rector gets married in the church, the entire parish is invited. I grew up on that one.
As one might imagine, in blending those customs we could find ourselves in the position of asking a very nice family from south Arkansas to feed and water the 1200 members of Trinity Cathedral—which of course is asking too much.
So this is what we will do instead.
On June 4, at 5:00 when Christoph and Laura are married, you are each and everyone warmly invited to the wedding. You will honor us by your presence. We would love to fill the Cathedral.
That night, Laura’s parents will host a private reception for the wedding party, families, and closest friends of the bride and groom.
And then, on Friday night, August 19, from 6:00 to 9:00—after the bride has taken the bar exam, and the couple returns from their honeymoon—Julie and I will host a great big party in Chancellors Hall, to:
- Honor the bride and groom with dinner, champagne, and wedding cake; and
- Thank you, our Cathedral family, for the many and varied ways you enrich our lives.
We will dance to the sound of “The SoulSations” the wedding band from Memphis who will return to Little Rock just for this. This party is for all ages of Trinity Cathedral. If this is your church, or you think it might be, you are invited. We are calling the party “Rock the Block!”
So please help us fill the church June 4—and on August 19 come back and Rock the Block!
