Insights Presents Diana Butler Bass on Feb. 18th
February 16, 2016

On February 18, Trinity Cathedral Insights presents Diana Butler Bass, the author of nine books on American religion, including Christianity After Religion, Christianity for the Rest of Us, and A people's History of Christianity. She holds a Ph.D. in religious studies from Duke University, has taught at the college and graduate level, and is currently an independent scholar. She was a columnist for The New York Times and writes for The Huffington Post and The Washington Post on issues of religion, spirituality, and culture.
Every year, more Americans leave organized religion behind as people disaffiliate and the nation becomes more religiously diverse. Grounded explores this cultural turn as Bass unpacks how people are finding new spiritual ground through a God who resides in the world with us - in the soil, the water, the sky, in our homes and neighborhoods, and in the global commons. People are connecting with God through the environment in which we live. Grounded guides readers through our contemporary spiritual habitat by paying attention to the ways in which people experience a God who animates creation and community.

Funeral Notice
February 09, 2016

The Reverend Dr. Colin Goode, Sub-Dean at Trinity Cathedral (February 1989-January 1993) died recently in Bellingham, Washington.
The former rector of St. Thomas, Chilliwack (1983-1986) and of Holy Trinity, Vancouver (2000-2002) the Reverend Dr. Colin Goode died in Bellingham, Washington during the evening of February 1. The Rev. Dr. Goode also served as Sub-Dean at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock.
His death was announced in an email sent by his current bishop, the Right Reverend Greg Rickel, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia. Following his resignation from Holy Trinity, Colin was called to ministry as Vicar of Grace Church, Lopez Island until his retirement in 2009. In retirement Colin remained on Lopez Island with his wife Moira.
Bishop Rickel writes:
"Colin had gone in for a heart valve replacement and complications from that led to his death. He died in Bellingham on Monday night. His family was with him in the last few days and Moira reported to me that those were good times. I have assured her of our prayers for her and for their family. The initial memorial will be held this Sunday at Grace, Lopez as part of the morning service which this Sunday will begin at 10:30am Moira has also expressed a desire to do a service later in the year to allow more people to be present. I am making a visitation there in June and we may plan something around that visit. I will let you know all of those details as they become available. Until then, please keep Moira, her family, Grace, Lopez in your prayers."
Rest Eternal grant him O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him.

Choir News!
January 28, 2016
Thank you all so much for the fun, fellowship, and welcome at our Make a Joyful Noise event on January 13! I enjoyed the event so much. And many things will grow from it!
The hand bell choir meets Wednesdays at 6:00. We welcome all new members who are interested but not necessarily experienced. Hand bells meet IN the cathedral. We will teach you what you need to know. Remember, the Hand Bell choir needs you.
The Children's Choirs begin February 4. The Cherubs (ages 4,5,6) will be rehearsing from 3:30 - 4:15 and the Seraphims (grades 2-6) rehearsing from 4:30 - 5:15. Children's Choirs will meet in the choir room above Morrison Hall. You may just “show up,” but if you could register your child ahead of time here, it would be helpful!
If you indicated that you would be able to help and haven't heard from me, don't worry. I will be calling on you. The biggest help I'll need is making sure these children are SAFE. Helping them find their rides, their way around the Cathedral Campus, helping them with bathroom, kleenex, other needs... it'll take a village.
If you read music and have ever sung in a choir, the Cathedral Choir needs you! Our goal is 35 singers. Won't you help us? We'll be meeting on Thursday nights at 6:00 so our choir members who want to attend the formation classes will be able to do so.
So much is happening, we have to work fast and furiously to grow this music program. All help, suggestions, and encouragement are deeply appreciated.
In closing, please accept my deep appreciation for the warm welcome. My spirit doth rejoice in the Living God, so evidenced in this amazing congregation.
