Weekly Evensong Begins September 11th
August 30, 2016

On Sundays at 4 p.m., beginning September 11, Trinity Cathedral will offer the traditional Anglican service of Evensong. In Evensong, much of the Prayer Book service of Evening Prayer (pp. 61-73) is sung. This service includes psalms, readings, canticles, prayers, and a hymn, all of which are designed to lift our hearts to God and help prepare us spiritually for the night and week ahead. The congregation will sit on either side of the chancel, where the choir normally sits.
At 4 p.m., Evensong begins with an organ prelude, which provides time and atmosphere for contemplation. Immediately following Evensong, social time featuring British tea and other light refreshments will be held in either the Garth or Morrison Hall. The first reception (Sept. 11) following the Evensong service will be held at the home of Lenora and Richard Steinkamp (317 W 17th St.).
A brief liturgy of Holy Communion will also be offered in the chapel after Evensong, especially for those who did not have the opportunity to receive Communion earlier in the day.
